Emergent essences exist contingently. In other words, whatever comes into existence, acquired its existence from an essence extrinsic to it.

If an essence can cease to exist, then this essence must have emerged into existence. This is because the existence of this essence can be neither necessary, nor impossible. Which means its existence must be contingent. And all contingent essences are emergent.
